A thematic Parliamentary Network chapter brings together a group of parliamentarians united around a specific issue or focus area aligned with the network’s mission and principles. These chapters facilitate collaboration among legislators from different areas around the world who share a commitment to their particular theme.
The Women Parliamentary Council
Launched during the 2024 Global Parliamentary Forum in Washington D.C., the Women Parliamentary Council is a thematic chapter of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF that aims to foster collaboration, empower women parliamentarians through knowledge sharing, promote gender equality in economic policies, and advocate for women’s representation within international institutions. The name was chosen by the interim executive committee to showcase the need to foster equality and representation in development and macroeconomic international cooperation.
The Chapter provides a unique platform for women parliamentarians globally to convene, exchange insights, and spearhead initiatives to advance gender-related issues on the international stage. This direct interaction allows women parliamentarians to provide input on country strategies, public expenditure reviews, institutional policies, and development projects from a gender lens.
The Chapter is led by an elected executive steering committee comprised of parliamentarians from across the world and consisting of a Chair, Vice Chair, and Regional Representatives. The next elections for the members of the committee will take place on October 2025, during the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings.
