Youth Job Creation

by The Parliamentary Network | on 05.05.17 | in Job creation

Sustainable Development Goal 8 : Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

With the youth unemployment rate increasing worldwide, youth job creation has become one of the greatest challenges of international development. The rapid population growth in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa means that a billion new jobs need to be created by 2030 to accommodate this demographic shift. As the world is becoming more and more youthful, we need to ensure that there are enough opportunities for all, and that young people of both genders are able to obtain necessary skills to match these opportunities. The benefits that flow from successful youth job creation are enormous. Young people in jobs grow economies; young people without jobs deplete them. We need more of the former and less of the latter.

The Parliamentary Network, in collaboration with Peace Child International and numerous civil society organisations, created Youthjobcreation.org in order to analyse current trends and policies in the field and provide recommendations for policymakers, NGOs, educators and youth leaders around the world.

The latest Youth Job Creation Policy Primer was presented to our MPs in April 2017 during the Global Parliamentary Conference.
